British designer Vivienne Westwood has teamed up with the English National Ballet to provide costumes for the company’s 2013 publicity shots in a modern new branding campaign that draws on British historical references.

Founded in 1950 by star dancers Alicia Markova and Anton DolinThe English National Ballet enters a new era in 2013 with its first ever advertising campaign. Tamara Rojo, artistic director of the dance company, called upon Britain’s most famous anti-establishment designerVivienne Westwood to create the costumes for the new promotional images. Westwood’s free-thinking spirit and punk attitude have not been reined in for the George Williamson-choreographed campaign, where dancers pose against the incongruous backdrop of a deserted country manor house. A combination of pieces from the Westwood archives and the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, the clothes themselves were inspired by the history of British costumes, a grand tradition for which Westwood bears the torch in the 21st century. The Guy Farrow-lensed campaign will soon be unveiled in its entirety in London.
