Quick annotations – Colour & Composition Notations of Existing Works

Looking back over an old sketchboook….

It is always good practice to re-vist existing works and to make annotations.  Even if the works are not to your ‘taste’, by looking and making visual notes on the composition, colour, shadow, geometric and organic lines, and so on, one is able to gain a more in depth understanding of how these works were approached and constructed.  By doing so, you are broadening your own comprehension of techniques and how you might apply them – which surely can only enrich your own work.

The visual notations below were inspired from a day, or few, spent looking (mainly) at 19th century painters at the Walker Art Gallery and Lady Lever Art Gallery, Wirral, England.
